RDP is the standard way to use the graphical Ubuntu desktop environment of your workspace.
Prerequisites
- Your computer is connected with Tailscale for Workspace VMs.
- On the workspace start page in the Application Platform you will find hostname, RDP port, username, and optionally a downloadable RDP file.
Install an RDP client
Recommended clients by platform:
Windows
- Remote Desktop Connection (already included in Windows) – open it from Start → “Remote Desktop Connection” or run
mstsc.exe. - Alternative: Microsoft Remote Desktop in the Microsoft Store
macOS
- Microsoft Remote Desktop from the Mac App Store (recommended)
Linux
- Remmina (recommended) – via your distribution’s package manager, e.g.
sudo apt install remmina - Alternative: FreeRDP (
xfreerdp) for the command line
Connect
- Open your RDP client.
- Connect using the hostname and port from the workspace start page.
- Sign in with the displayed RDP user.
Alternatively, download an RDP file from the Application Platform and open it directly.
After login, prepared project folders are available in the workspace user’s home directory.
