A domain is the readable name of a website or application, for example example.com. People use this name, while servers are reached through technical addresses in the background.
DNS is the internet’s address book. It translates a domain into technical targets so browsers, mail clients, and other services know where to send requests.
What is a DNS record?
A DNS record describes which target applies to a domain or subdomain. The most important types for the Application Platform are:
A: The domain points directly to an IPv4 address.CNAME: The domain points to another hostname.
When the Platform shows that DNS matches, the current DNS values were successfully compared with the expected target.
The two steps of the domain setup
- Buy a domain – if you don’t have one yet: what to look for at the registrar.
- Configure DNS – set the records the platform shows you in the domain detail.
The platform derives the required DNS records automatically from your project configuration and continuously checks whether they match – you can see the status in the Domains section.
