Create a workspace

A ready-made development VM in a few clicks: pick a project, assign a user, start working.

On this page

Prerequisites

  • Your organization has at least one project and an active subscription (see Billing).
  • The person the workspace is assigned to has signed in to the workspace network with Tailscale once – the platform checks this when creating the workspace and otherwise shows a dialog with instructions. See Set up Tailscale.
  • Workspaces can be created by organization administrators.

Creating the workspace

  1. Open Workspaces in the sidebar and click Add workspace.
  2. In the New cloud workspace dialog, choose:
    • Project – the workspace is assigned to one project.
    • Assigned user – who works with the workspace.
    • Description (optional).
    • Operating system: currently Ubuntu (Windows and macOS coming soon).
    • Machine size: currently Standard with 2 vCPUs, 8 GB RAM, and 100 GB storage (more sizes coming soon).
  3. Confirm – the platform provisions the VM automatically. You can follow the progress in the provisioning dialog; afterwards the workspace appears as a card with hostname and status.

Starting and stopping

Via the More menu on the workspace card you can shut down the workspace and start it again later.

Tip
Only running workspaces count towards your subscription’s workspace limit. Shut down workspaces nobody is using – this frees capacity for others.
